I am glad that so many people are reading my blogs, but I wonder what you are getting out of them. What do you do with the information?
My aim is to teach, inspire, inform and share my own unique perspectives on life.
I've been contemplating the power of words lately.
I have lived an unusual life and am writing my memories, but it is weird to put myself out there and not know who is reading and not getting feedback. That is not the way of our ancestors, it is not a circular experience. I am used to being in circles where everyone shares their perspective and we all learn from each other. There is usually a leader and teacher but they listen to what others have to say and take it seriously.
In this modern world where the written word is paramount and widespread, do we consider the impact of our words and how they are interpreted? When reading a text you can't see the facial expressions, hear the tones in the voice or observe the body language. So much of what we read is left up to our personal interpretation.
That is one reason why I am reluctant to publish my memories and the Medicine Wheel Teachings. What I share is sacred and personal as well as Ancient. The teachings come from the Ancestors, from Spirit, the Dreaming. The language we use is different. For my book, I realize that I will have to define the terms that we use, such as Shaman, Circular ways, sacredness... to avoid misinterpretations.
Still, the written word is limited and rigid one put down on paper or computer, whereas the ancient teachings are fluid, flexible and adaptable to different circumstances. What is true in one situation is not true in another. It depends on many other factors. That is why Indigenous Peoples valued the spoken word over the written. They saw no need for a written language. Their word was honourable. they meant what they said and thought carefully before speaking
Today people tweet, text and write anything. We no longer trust each others words because we don't know if they are honest or not. "False information" has become a common term. People no longer trust the spoken word, we need contracts, forms and written proof. Still... words are misused, abused and over-used.
In the bible, the beginning of Creation is about "THE WORD"... The word is God**... How much of our words today contain truth, power, presence and sacredness?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
