ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGES THAT LIFE THROWS YOUR WAY?
We all know how gentle, powerful, mysterious, unpredictable and dangerous the Wind can be.
A gentle Wind soothes, cleanses and relaxes us.
A strong Wind exhilarates and excites us.
A hurricane Wind or Tornado can destroy and even kill us and destroy our environment.
Lately, Mother Nature and Brother Wind have been showing us who's Boss. The heating of the planet and melting of the Arctic Ice is creating more hurricanes, tornadoes, and other powerful phenomenon.
On the Medicine Wheel and in Shamanic Indigenous Teachings, the Winds are FORCES OF NATURE that come from the DREAMING, the place of Creation. They blow in every month in random order, bringing us Challenges to tackle and make us strong. We all experience these influences whether we are aware of them or not. Each Wind has its own characteristics.
Winds are also ROLES that we embody. As Roles, they/we have their/our own stories and Medicine.
We all have 5 Roles on our Personal Wheels.
When we follow the Winds month to month, we do not know what order they will appear in. It takes a Master Dreamer or a community of Dreamers to figure it out.
The Winds create the outer rim of the Wheel, which contains and guards the Inner Circle.
The 8 Winds or Roles are:
1. Firekeeper Wind
2. Visionary Wind
3. Peacekeeper Wind
4. Warrior Wind
5. Nomad Wind
6. Dreamer Wind
7. Initiator Wind
8. Healer Wind
You will learn about your personal Medicine Roles that protect and guide you, how to navigate the Winds on a monthly basis and how to handle the challenges that life throws your way.
These circles are open to both Men and Women, ages 18+.
Registration is required.
All Circles are sliding scale fee: $20-$30.
JOURNEY WITH THE MOONS!
ON APRIL 28TH, 2018, we will be starting a new cycle of the Moons, which will last for 12 months!
In one year, you will discover so much about yourself from a Natural & Cosmological perspective, that you never knew possible. It is a great time to start a new journey with the Grandmother Moon of Welcoming and learn about your own Personal Moons - how to recognize them in yourself, how to bring balance and healing to them and how to nourish them and in others around you.
The Moons are known as the Container for the Ego in Indigenous Traditions. We do not see these as something to get rid of, we see them as our Inner Children, our Emotional body, the Human part of our Soul that is about survival. It connects us to Cosmology - Grandmother Moon.
For the next year, we will explore the 13 Moons from a Sacred Circle perspective.
Everyone is unique and although we all have the same Moons, each individual experiences and expresses them in a different way.
The 13 Moons also represent the first 13 years of life, and repeat themselves again every 13 years throughout our life; Childhood, Adolescence, Adulthood and Elder stages - all the way up to Grandmothers/Gods & Goddesses.
The 13 Moons are:
1. Moon of Welcoming
2. Moon of Affirmation
3. Moon of Drama
4. Moon of Value
5. Moon of Omnipotence
6. Moon of Territoriality
7. Moon of Inter-Relations
8. Moon of Surrender
9. Moon of Breaking Masks
10.Moon of Reasoning
11. Moon of Humility
12. Moon of Metamorphosis
13. Moon of Initiation
What we live in our early years sets the foundation for the latter stages of our life. Where we are at with our Moons is evident to those who understand how they work. As Adults, we want to be be able to nourish and discipline our Inner Children/Moons.
Come and learn how to work and play with your Moons.
This information is powerful and extremely useful for parents, teachers, social workers, doctors, nurses, etc... as well as those adults who are looking for their own self-awareness and development.
We will explore the MOONS in the GRANDMOTHER LODGE on Sunday afternoons closet to the FULL MOON. You will learn about your Personal Moons as well as Collective/Cosmic Moons.
These Circles are open to both Men and Woman ages 18+.
To register, please contact me as soon as possible as space may be limited.
This image is called "Natures Embrace", which i thought was appropriate for the new theme I am about to embark upon within the Sacred Circles in Ottawa. It is about the Masculine and Feminine parts of the Wheel and how we work with them in a Traditional Shamanic context.
On the Medicine Wheel, the WINDS are Masculine. These are Forces of Nature that come and go every month on the New Moon. They challenge us to explore the themes they bring and find our MEDICINE or POWER. There are 8 Winds to explore.
The Winds are also know as Roles, which are Fragments that we embody. We all have five Roles in various combinations.
The MOONS are the Feminine part of the Wheel, our Human selves or what we call the container for the Ego. There are 13 Moons and each one is unique.
We experience our Moons through our Emotions. They can be young or old, male or female. They can also be balanced or imbalanced just like the Winds.
Cosmologically, the Moons also refers to the 13 Grandmothers, hence these circles are called GRANDMOTHER LODGES. The Moons change on the FULL MOON and this is when we will explore them on both personal and collectives/Cosmic levels.
Right now we are in the MOON OF WELCOMING, the First Moon, but on Marche 31st we will be having another BLUE MOON. Then we start again with another Moon of Welcoming on April 29th. This is a great time to start Journeying the Medicine Wheel! By embracing and exploring your Sacred Masculine and Sacred Feminine, you will build and strengthen your personal Wheel, which offers Protection and Power. You will also connect with the Collective and Cosmic Wheels at the same time.
Each Role and Moon also has a Totem. And we all have a Spirit Clan to learn about. So there is lots to enjoy. There is so much beauty and wisdom in these teachings and as long as I am around, I am honoured and obliged to share them with others. Someone might ask me why I keep teaching when I could retire. The short answer is that I am devoted to the Sacred Ways and love to share what I have learned from my Teachers and Spirit. The Wheel has given mo so much incredible self-awareness, healing, strength, wisdom, beauty and abundance. It would be selfish of me not to pass it on.
I hope to meet new participants and I welcome you all to join in the adventure with the Ancestors and the Spirit of the Wheel that lives and breathes in all of us and in all of Nature.
The Medicine Wheel teaches us about the 3 parts of the Soul. Commit to the Journey and experience the Power and Medicine of your SOUL. Walk in Sacredness towards Wholeness and Balance!
(If you have any questions, please email me).
THE MEDICINE WHEEL reflects all of life. It represents everything that exists and gives consciousness to our experiences. The BASIC WHEEL is divided up into Winds, Clans, Elements and Moons.
The WINDS represent challenges that we face in life. They show us how to face them head on. They give us Sacred Tools to work with in dealing with these challenges.
The Winds are also Natural Influences that change every New Moon. They affect all life on this planet. Understanding these helps us to navigate through our month according to the Naturally occurring theme at the time.
The MOONS are the container for the Ego. They represent our Emotional Body and our Humanity, ranging from our Inner Children, to Adolescence, Adulthood and Elder, as well as the Gods/Goddesses and Grandmothers. As you can see there is a lot to the Moons. Both men and women have Moons. The Ego is defined differently in Indigenous traditions. It is about survival and not something to "get rid of".
The Moon teachings are great for everyone, but especially for teachers, parents and anyone who works with children. In today's world we need to bring consciousness to our Moons as they are creating havoc.
By learning and integrating these teachings, you are connecting with Natural and Cosmological Laws, the Dreaming, Spirit and Your Natural Essence.
The Medicine Wheel that I use is a circle of 36 stones, each of which has a deep and profound meaning, related to Natural and Cosmological laws. The Wheel represents Natural Forces as well as Human/Ego, Totemic and Ancestral part of our Soul. There are 8 Winds, 7 Clans, 12 Elements and 13 Moons. We do not use the 4 midwinds or the 13th Moon when laying down a wheel of stones.
There are also 4 loops of consciousness, 8 Gateways to the Dreaming and 16 Mysteries as well as countless totems on the Wheel. But it takes time to learn these.
When we lay down the stones in a particular way, we create a magnetic force. Being Ancient, it connects us to the Ancestral Spirits as well as the Spirits of the Land and our Guides.
The Sacred Circle of Life exists in all things, from the tiniest DNA molecule to the spiralling of distance galaxies throughout the universe. The Circle is the most stable and fluid of all forms. Circles form naturally in nature, plants grow in spirals, birds build round nests, the Earth circles around the Sun, the Moon circles around the Earth. A circle is sacred to Indigenous peoples because of all of this and more.
It was said that when Humans stopped living in circular homes, the end was near. We are in the end of an era that was predicted thousands of years ago. Seasons and eras are also cycles circles of Nature. There are short Cycles like the four seasons in a year, and longer cycles like 2000 year cycles and more.
When we sit around a collective Medicine Wheel, we are creating a Sacred Circle where we all have something to contribute and learn from each other. But it is more than a circle. If you could see the energies emanating from it, you would see a spiral reaching up to the stars and another one pointing down into the Earth. The Medicine Wheel teaches us the as we circle around through life, what seems to be repetitive cycles are actually spirals. When we come back to the same place, we are not the same. We have acquired wisdom and knowledge, consciousness.
The Ancient Teachings are still valid today, they are timeless and adaptable to all places and peoples. They come from the Earth and the Stars, not from any particular culture, race or religion. It is a philosophy of life, a way to live in harmony with the Earth and Stars. All ancient cultures had Sacred Circles. Stonehenge, the Mayan Temples, the Egyptian pyramids... are all Sacred Circles.
The Wheel I live and learn from comes from the Indigenous Ancestors of Turtle Island. And even within Turtle Island, there are many different approaches to the Wheel. The one I use comes from the Eastern Tribes of Canada and the Dreaming. And my teacher has taught it to me.
Every Month, we look a new theme according to messages received from the Dreaming, Nature and Cosmology. And right now the Natural and Cosmological Influences are extremely intense, but with consciousness of the messages being shown to us, we can use this time as an opportunity to grow, heal, renew and ascend to a higher level of awareness.
* The Wheel you see above does not have the Midwinds and Centre stone.
It is the basic Wheel that we use. The middle stone would count for the 36th Stone - Creator.
The penny is outdated but the saying still has merit! today it would be more like a dime for your thoughts. Or a dollar!!!
When I post a blog, I do so in hopes of creating a connection with something inside each one of you that enter this space. We all have something to share, to say, to heal, to learn, to teach one another... Your feedback is important to me, even if it is just a few words.
Don't be shy to even just say "I read this and it spoke to me"... or "My experience is different, this is how I see it"... or "thanks for this blog". A few words from you can mean a lot.
Or you can give your thoughts and perspectives, how a blog resonated for you, or not....Or ask questions...
Your responses make a circle complete.
So please take a moment to post a few words to the left in the comments section.
Please help me make this a Sacred Circle space.
When I first came on a Shamanic Path, I was given a name that related to who I was at the time. I did not even know what it meant, it took me a decade or more of journeying with it in order to fully understand that it was about my Wheelkeeper. The Name was "She Who Magnetizes Truth", given to me by Grandmother Tywlah Nitsch of the Seneca Nation. It was my initiation onto the path, as well as into the Wolf Clan Tribe. Ironically, a year later when I found my Teacher Lisa, I learned that Grandmother and Lisa had a strong connection. And I learned about my Role as a Keeper of the wheel,
"She Who Magnetizes Truth" speaks of the Magnetic energy that a Wheelkeeper carries.
Since then, other names have surfaced, to be explored and then put to rest. Each one represented a part of my Inner Community, a Fragment. Some were my Medicine Roles, others were parts of me that needed to be brought to consciousness and healed or brought into balance. The Name "Wheelkeeper" was the one I used for the longest, two decades. It represented the work I was doing, a Dreamtime Role on my Personal Wheel. It is work that I am still doing, but in respect to other Wheelkeepers out there, I let the name go. It was not mine to own.
We all have many parts (Fragments) inside of us. No, It does not mean we are multiple personalities as defined in a Western Psychological way. It means that we are complex, multi-dimensional creatures with lots to learn and explore about ourselves.
Learning about my Natural Essence, my Medicine Roles, my Moons, Clan, and other parts has brought me a whole lot closer to WHOLENESS than I ever imagined possible. We are all fragmented, fractured by life, death and other traumas. By gathering up my Inner Community members together and discovering their stories, I am breathing life into them. I am giving them Spirit. I am walking towards ONENESS.
Now once again I find myself completing another major chapter in my life and after exploring my Polar Bear, I am letting her go with great sadness, joy and gratitude.
I have an idea where this will lead me next, but it is too soon to tell for sure. I just wish I could find one that was ongoing instead of changing my emails addresses all the time. Hopefully, this will be the last name change for me, as I am in the final chapter of my life.
The Teachings I share are passed on to me by my Teachers, the Dreaming and Spirit. I have been on this path 25+ years now. The lessons, healing and consciousness continue to lead me to grow and they guide me on my way Home.
Did you ever ask yourself, "Why am I here? What is my life purpose? My Mission? What did I come here to live, to learn, to heal?"
I have... and I have received the answers to all these questions and more! How? By exploring myself from a Shamanic perspective, which looks at my Natural Essence, and by going deeper and deeper into my Soul journey to the core of my existence.
Today people want quick fixes and easy answers... but these are not sustainable.
To truly learn anything takes time. It takes 7 years to become an Initiated Keeper of the Medicine wheel, and only if it is your calling. It is not for everyone. But everyone can learn from the teachings. I am pleased to have a great group of eager learners coming to my circles, people who truly respect the Indigenous ways, those who come to participate, enjoy, heal and grow with the Sacred Circle Ways.
Circular ways teach us how to be accountable for our words and actions, knowing that they have far-reaching consequences. They teach us how to be collective beings - something that is sadly lost in the modern world, where so many are out for themselves and people build separate lives. We do not Live in communities anymore like our Ancestors did. We do not know our neighbours. Our Ancestors truly understood Oneness, Collectivity and Unity.
When I lay down a circle of stones, it creates a magnetic forcefield that magnetizes the energies in the environment. I follow the energy and let it guide me... in a circular fashion. When we realize our oneness we can learn from each other, we listen to the stories being shared around the Wheel and see what it touches for us. When we drum, we connect our heartbeats to Mother Earth and each other's heartbeats. The rituals connect us back to the Ancestors and invite Spirit in.
The teachings I share are not planned, the Wheel guides me and I cannot always predict where it will take us, so you have to be open to the unknown, to being spontaneous and participating, sharing and learning. Usually I start with a basic theme and format, but after that, anything is possible.
What is predictable is the sacredness of the Circle and of those who enter the space with consciousness and respect. It is also a time to play, have fun and enjoy each others company! There can also be challenges and initiations that pop up! Like I said, anything is possible!
We also share snacks and get to know each others gifts, Roles, Clans and Totems. We may share some Dreams and Spirit messages. We may do art or go on power walks, do Shamanic journeying and more... over time.
Patience and consistency will bring great rewards to those who attend.
*** I would love to hear back from some of the ongoing Circle participants... What are you getting out of the Circles? You can respond in the comment section. Please help make this blog a Sacred Circle. It takes 3 or more to make a circle.
This year we are experiencing the effects of 2 BLUE MOONS, one on January 31st and another on March 31st. This is a rare phenomenon, the last time this happened was 1999. As we all know, the Full Moon affects our ocean tides and our emotional bodies. Schools, hospitals and police are extra busy during Full Moons, because we are under its influence and need to know haw to navigate through these challenges that the Moons bring us. Each Month we experience a different Theme based on the 13 Moons, 13 Grandmothers.
What we live, how we are influenced and how we react or respond to these energies depends on our level of consciousness, self-awareness and self-discipline.
In the news today, on the weather channel, I noticed several coastal regions were already experiencing unusually large ocean waves hitting up against the shores. The pull of the Super Blue Moon is already upon us.
The Blue Moon in our teachings is when we undergo initiations that show us what we will be living and learning the next 3 years. But this year, between January 31st and March 31st, we will go through 3 years of life in a matter of 2 months. Then on March 31st, we will go through another Blue Moon experience, which will stay with us for the next 3 years.
Not only is January 31st, a Blue Moon, it is a SUPER MOON, meaning it is closest to the Earth as it can be in its orbit. It will be 14% larger than usual and 40% brighter.
AND as if that is not enough... it is also a BLOOD MOON! This refers to the fact it will be a TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE. The blue light from the sun will be filtered by the earth's atmosphere, leaving a reddish glow on the Moon .
Does all this sound complex? Well it is! And so are we, and so is Life. But the Medicine Wheel helps us to stay balanced, centred and grounded during such times. I am so grateful for the teachings handed down to me by my Teachers and the Dreaming.
I wish you all a conscious journey in the times to come as Mother Earth is struggling to survive, and many go about their daily lives in ignorance and denial. Please remember to think of Mother, and be kind to her - recycle, reduce your consumerism ways, compost... do what you can with prayerful intention. In the end, it is YOU that will benefit from your connection to her more than anything. Even if our small acts do not make a difference in the bigger picture, it will make a difference for you and your soul.
This Year I hit the ground running. It is only january 5th and it feels like I have lived a full year already. With the online Shamanic classes with my Teachers and community, the every increasing connections being made here in Ottawa and trying to work on my book, keeping up with daily tasks, etc... there is not much time to stop and think, let alone write a blog. But I wanted to take a minute to welcome new readers and invite you to leave your comments. Otherwise I am just talking to myself.
The Sacred Circle implies sharing, giving and giving back. By replying, you helping to make a Sacred Circle where we all are equal.
I want to thank Chris White (of CKCU, 93.1 FM Carleton University Radio) for inviting me to be a guest on his Show, "Friday Special Blend" today. It was my first, but not last, time being on the radio. You can catch the show by logging into their Web page ckcufm.com and look for prior playlist, January 6, 2018.
(Click on link below)
It was especially great to see Mitra Ghaffari again. She is the one who introduced me to Chris. I had given a presentation at the Foster Farm Community Centre where she is the Event Organizer. The talk was called "Between Worlds: Being Indigenous in Canada". I spoke about my Ancestors and how the Metis People were pushed aside by both Whites and Natives, and how I never really knew what it meant to be Indigenous until I was 40 years old. Needless to say, that is when my life began to make sense. Up until then, I was feeling lost and searching.
The push to become more public is coming from the Ancestors who want me to share the Indigenous wisdom with others. They seem to be creating places for me to do this, working through those who contact me. Spirit works through us all whether we know it or not, taking us to where we need to be for our healing and growth.
The next radio show I will be on is called "Canadian Spaces" and it runs on Saturday, February 3rd, 10 am to noon. if you miss it, you can still find it on the playlist.
I am an introverted and introspective person, more comfortable observing and listening to others or working in small groups. But it is important to speak of some things so that the Ancient wisdom is not lost and because Indigenous teachings are what the world desperately needs today to restore balance.
So stay tuned, leave me a message here in the comments section and we can talk some more.
Blessings on your day!
2018 is already proving to be filled with new adventures and challenges with two Blue Moons this year. The first one is at the end of January and will also be a Lunar Eclipse, a Super Moon and a "Blood Moon". Phew! The is a lot!
Then at the end of March, there is another Blue Moon, Both are "Supermoons" which means they are at the closest to the Earth they can be in their elliptical orbit. We are in for a heck of a ride this year!
The Moons are all about the Feminine, the Goddess and Grandmother energy, as well as our Emotional Bodies and Inner Children. it is important to stay calm and clear this year, not to fall into fear mongering that goes on within the media coverage.
I am feeling an urgency to represent the teachings and the Ancestors in a good way. And the Universe is pushing me to go out there and speak. I do not go looking for these things, I let them come to me. I follow the way of the Dreaming. But one thing leads to another and it seems that I will be on CKCU, Carleton University Radio on Friday, January 5th at 8 am. Then again on February 3rd at 10 am.
This is not something I went looking for, in fact I prefer to stay home where it's quiet and calm. I like my Bear cave. But I am committed to serving the Ancestors and the Teachings. I can only share from my experiences and what I learn from my Teachers, Spirit and the Dreaming, but these things need to be talked about.
We are focusing a lot of energy these days on how horribly our Indigenous People have been and are still being treated. And that definitely needs to be brought to the mass consciousness. But I do not want to forget the beauty, the sacredness and wisdom of the Indigenous ways,,, the Sacred Circle Ways. These too need to be shared. They contain the information we need to help the planet, to bring awareness of the damage we are doing to the air, earth and water and ourselves and how to change. We need to find new attitudes and new perspectives. The Red Race are the Keepers of the Earth after all.
It is time that the general public started listening to the First Nations, Metis and Inuit people. If our European Ancestors had come to Turtle Island to learn and integrate with the millions of inhabitants already here, we would not be in this mess today. Instead they came to conquer, take and destroy. They were welcomed with open arms and were taught how to survive on this land, but it was not enough. They wanted it all and they wanted the people here to get out of their way. Well, guess what, we are still here! If anything Indigenous people are great survivors!
The persecution, neglect, prejudice and negative stereotypes of Indigenous People still persists, but we are beginning to speak up and things are just starting to turn around.
The world needs what the Indigenous people have to offer. They need to learn how to live in harmony with Natural and Cosmological laws, to be in tune with the forces that are bigger than us. Native people were not perfect but they never destroyed the environment. The reverence for Mother Earth is paramount to all Indigenous Traditions. It does not make sense to kill someone you are dependent on for your survival. This is insanity. We do not need to go back in time, but to work with what we have left. Start where we are at now.
This past few decades we have been seeing the long term results of human greed, the need to take, dominate and control. The pressure is building and we all need to find our place and take measures to counteract the panic, fear and greed. We need to stop being consumers, we have to downgrade, take only what we need and leave the rest.
We need to stop hurting our Mother and start respecting Her. She has been screaming at us for decades and more so in the past few years.
Each small act we do makes a difference: composting, recycling, not over-consuming, driving less, eating locally... if anything it makes a difference for US and OUR connection to Mother Earth, and most of all... to our very own Souls. In the end, I just want to be able to say, "I did my best".
Take care of Mother Earth and she will take care of you.
Ride out the Blue Moons and stay centred and calm.
Do not, I repeat - DO NOT contribute to the panic.
