The Medicine Wheel that I use is a circle of 36 stones, each of which has a deep and profound meaning, related to Natural and Cosmological laws. The Wheel represents Natural Forces as well as Human/Ego, Totemic and Ancestral part of our Soul. There are 8 Winds, 7 Clans, 12 Elements and 13 Moons. We do not use the 4 midwinds or the 13th Moon when laying down a wheel of stones.
There are also 4 loops of consciousness, 8 Gateways to the Dreaming and 16 Mysteries as well as countless totems on the Wheel. But it takes time to learn these.
When we lay down the stones in a particular way, we create a magnetic force. Being Ancient, it connects us to the Ancestral Spirits as well as the Spirits of the Land and our Guides.
The Sacred Circle of Life exists in all things, from the tiniest DNA molecule to the spiralling of distance galaxies throughout the universe. The Circle is the most stable and fluid of all forms. Circles form naturally in nature, plants grow in spirals, birds build round nests, the Earth circles around the Sun, the Moon circles around the Earth. A circle is sacred to Indigenous peoples because of all of this and more.
It was said that when Humans stopped living in circular homes, the end was near. We are in the end of an era that was predicted thousands of years ago. Seasons and eras are also cycles circles of Nature. There are short Cycles like the four seasons in a year, and longer cycles like 2000 year cycles and more.
When we sit around a collective Medicine Wheel, we are creating a Sacred Circle where we all have something to contribute and learn from each other. But it is more than a circle. If you could see the energies emanating from it, you would see a spiral reaching up to the stars and another one pointing down into the Earth. The Medicine Wheel teaches us the as we circle around through life, what seems to be repetitive cycles are actually spirals. When we come back to the same place, we are not the same. We have acquired wisdom and knowledge, consciousness.
The Ancient Teachings are still valid today, they are timeless and adaptable to all places and peoples. They come from the Earth and the Stars, not from any particular culture, race or religion. It is a philosophy of life, a way to live in harmony with the Earth and Stars. All ancient cultures had Sacred Circles. Stonehenge, the Mayan Temples, the Egyptian pyramids... are all Sacred Circles.
The Wheel I live and learn from comes from the Indigenous Ancestors of Turtle Island. And even within Turtle Island, there are many different approaches to the Wheel. The one I use comes from the Eastern Tribes of Canada and the Dreaming. And my teacher has taught it to me.
Every Month, we look a new theme according to messages received from the Dreaming, Nature and Cosmology. And right now the Natural and Cosmological Influences are extremely intense, but with consciousness of the messages being shown to us, we can use this time as an opportunity to grow, heal, renew and ascend to a higher level of awareness.
* The Wheel you see above does not have the Midwinds and Centre stone.
It is the basic Wheel that we use. The middle stone would count for the 36th Stone - Creator.
